“It’s all about Bruce Wayne” for the new Batman
The unofficially titled Superman Batman movie, dubbed by the media as Batman vs Superman, is slowly rolling out official news and authorized interviews, and Victor Lucas at Electric Playground had the opportunity to interview one of the movie’s Executive Producers, Michael Uslan, about the upcoming superhero team-up from Director Zack Snyder.
Michael has been a producer of Batman movies since Tim Burton’s Batman (1989.) Being both a producer and a huge fan, Michael is a also an empathizing critic, having shared a similar voice, in the past, over concerns for a specific actor being cast in the Bruce Wayne/ Batman role. Says Michael, “I’ve been there before,” referring to Michael Keaton’s casting. “People have to believe in Bruce Wayne, to the point of being that obsessed driven psychotic, a guy who would get dressed up as a bat and do what he did.” He explains, “Except I had the benefit of hearing a vision right away.”
While fandom reacted to the casting of Ben Affleck as the new Batman, the award winning director, and actor, has a lot to offer which the filmmakers are excited about, “With an Academy Award winning filmmaker- you look at his last bunch of movies. Hollywoodland. He had me convinced he was George Reeves. The Town, Argo, just really, really great quality work. Again, I’ll go back to what Tim [Burton] said, ‘it’s all about Bruce Wayne.’”, he continues, “When you focus on a Bruce Wayne, in his mid-forties, what’s he going to be feeling? What’s he going to be thinking? What does he have on his plate to deal with? I couldn’t be more excited about it.”
Michael isn’t the only Batman vs Superman producer to have commented on Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Charles Roven stated previously Ben has the gravitas to do the DC character the justice which it deserves, “We think that Ben [Affleck] is going to be a really great and interesting Batman.”
